Follow that... dwarf...?

After a night of rest, the Band of Jenkins paid a visit to the block of buildings that make up Overlook's war ministry.  At the gate, they were intercepted by two guards, who denied them entrance.  The band was approached by the new captain of the guard, formerly Aerun's second-in-command.  He could not answer any of their questions, and claimed that he did not know anything they might find relevant.  He thanked them heartily, though, for all they have done for Overlook, and requested they continue their investigation of Dunkirk, although he could not give them any official sanction.

Once more the Band of Jenkins made their way to the Stone Anvil
cathedral for a confrontation with Dunkirk.  Kreegan slipped in, concealing himself in a corner, to stake the temple out for the day.  After a while he saw Dunkirk leave the temple, and taking up quick pursuit watched the dwarf turn down a dead end alley.  To his great surprise, a slightly slimmer and taller dwarf walked out of the otherwise empty alley.

Kreegan darted back to the party.  "It's another damned doppelganger!  I'm following him.  Try to keep up!"  With that, he snuck through the crowd, keeping up with the dwarf-thing.  Pelias hoisted himself up to a rooftop and directed the others from there.  Kreegan darted and tumbled down a side street to keep up.  Auggie forged ahead on powerful dwarf-legs, keeping just ahead of the doppelganger at each turn.  As Pelias passed him in the crowd, Dunkirk glanced sharply-- as though he had the idea he was being followed.  Shaking his head, Kreegan took to the rooftops and from there observed as the dwarf-elganger slipped into a warehouse.

Realizing the doppelganger knew he was being followed, the band drew weapons and hoped to engage whatever was in that warehouse before they or it could prepare.  They found themselves on a platform about twenty feet above the floor of an enormous warehouse.  A catwalk ran the perimeter and crossed through the center of the building, starting from the platform.  Chains hung from the catwalk, presumably to aid top men with the moving of large crates that were stacked three high in places.  On the floor of the warehouse below them were several common thugs and one heavily armed man.

The man looked familiar to them, like someone they may have met in town, but his mannerisms appeared unnatural, like a puppet... or someone possessed.  There was no time, however, to investigate.

Sora led the Band of Jenkins into the warehouse, but the thugs were already waiting for them.  The heavily-armed man immediately hit her with an immobilizing blast, leaving Sora with nothing to do but hurl insults as the others rushed by.  Kreegan descended into the warehouse first, quickly disappearing into the shadows and around a stack of crates.  He rounded the corner into a group of thugs, and lashed out with his merciless short sword.  As soon as his blade struck, his target changed and morphed...

Juggsy ran from the platform, across the catwalk.  She threw herself over the edge, expecting to land on her feet and crush a foe with one of her twin, uh, axes.  As she launched herself over the railing, her boot caught in a hanging chain and she flopped to her back (again) at the feet of the sword-wielding man.
"Hello," she said around her enormous chest, and swung an axe at his kneecaps.

Shade shook her head and made her way toward where she last saw Kreegan.  As she rounded the stack of crates, she came face to face with the group of thugs-- and three Kreegans, all of whom turned toward her suddenly.  The nearest Kreegan dove toward her, into a tumble, shrieking, "FLAMINGO! FLAMINGO! FLAMINGO!"  As the real Kreegan darted to safety, Shade saw herself swarmed by the thugs and doppelgangers.

...more to come soon.
